Just as I and many with me had predicted – this was truly Novak Djokovic’s year in Paris (he’s not had a bad year outside Paris either). He beat Andy Murray in the French Open final with the scoreline of 3-6 6-1 6-2 6-4Â and by doing that now holds all four Grand Slam titles at the same time. Astonishing. Whether Djokovic is now on his way towards overtaking Roger Federer and his 17 grand slams remains to be seen, but I would be very surprised if he doesn’t beat Nadal at 14. Djokovic wins the French Open
There’s something eerily familiar about this clay court season. The way Nadal started by winning Monte Carlo and the way he stays winning in Barcelona. Yesterday he took out familiar foe, Fabio Fognini in a solid performance and there’s only one real threat to the title in my view – an in-form Kei Nishikori. What’s evident in Nadal’s play is that his confidence is growing with each win. He’s daring to go more for his forehand, he’s moving better and his backhand looks pretty solid throughout. This is bad news for the rest of the tour as we near Rome …
