Week 42 brought out three winners on the ATP Tour. Three players with interesting styles and an ability to hit wonderful winners from pretty much anywhere on court: Grigor Dimitrov, Richard Gasquet and Tommy Haas. It was nice to see Haas win in Vienna, a title he won in 2001 (!). Talk about making an amazing comeback from the injuries that have plagued a long stretch of his career. Sorry for the pun on your name, Tommy. I’m sure it’s not the first time you’ve heard that. But it’s sure nice to see him back on the courts, playing amazingly well at the less tender age of 35. Beating Djokovic in Miami wasn’t a one-off – Haas has been playing consistently well over months now and reached nr 14 in the world. It was the first “real” day of Roland Garros and both Federer, Djokovic and dark horse Del Potro were in action and they all managed to get through their rounds although Del Potro had to concede a set against serve-demon Ivo Karlovic. Djokovic looked light on his feat as usual, not dropping more than 6 games against Dutchman Thiemo De Bakker. It must be really tough to feel comfortable against Djokovic these days.
