Taylor Fritz continued his quest for a first-ever Acapulco title after an impressive 6-3, 6-4 victory over Frances Tiafoe in one hour and 36 minutes. Fritz has now won all his last seven official matches on the ATP Tour after lifting the trophy at the Delray Beach Open two weeks ago. The 25-year-old is playing some of his best tennis ever and is looking to win back-to-back titles for the first time in his career.

The conditions in Acapulco suit Taylor’s tennis, especially the higher bounce of the ball. Currently the American no.1 holds a 14-4 career record on this event and will try to make it once more to the final, after reaching the decisive match in 2020.

Fritz’s serve was one of his main weapons in the match against Tiafoe in the previous round. The no.3 seed saved all four break points he faced and won 70% of his service points. Adding to this, Fritz ended the match with very positive numbers as well, firing a total of 20 winners to just 16 unforced errors in total.

In the following round Fritz will face another fellow countryman, Tommy Paul, who is playing the best tennis of his career. This has been a very good year for Paul so far, who made it to his first-ever Grand Slam semifinals at the Australian Open in January. The 25-year-old also made it to the top 20 for the first time this year and is now looking to win his second career title this week.

Looking at Tommy’s campaign on this event so far, the Florida resident defeated Mackenzie McDonald 6-2, 6-2 in just 61 minutes. Paul was very impressive in his previous round, facing only one break point in the entire match, which he saved. The no.7 seed also won 79% of his service points and ended the match with 19 winners to just 6 unforced errors.

As you can see, both players have produced high-quality tennis this week and we expect a very entertaining match. As mentioned before, one thing is certain, there will be an American player in the final. Both will try to extend their winning record on this event and become the second-ever American to win the title in Acapulco after Sam Querrey’s victory in 2017.
