About ATP Brisbane
The Brisbane International started back in 2009, replacing the former ATP and WTA events in Adelaide and Gold Coast.
It quickly became popular because it’s right before the Australian Open, one of the four Grand Slam tournaments. This makes it a great place for players to get ready for the big event in Melbourne.
Over the years we’ve seen some real legends lift the trophy in Brisbane, like Serena Williams, Andy Murray and Roger Federer.
Court and Surface
The matches are played on outdoor hard courts. This type of surface is known for being fast and favoring players with strong serves and hard, flat shots.
- The main court is called the Pat Rafter Arena, named after the Australian tennis legend Patrick Rafter.
- This arena can hold about 5,500 spectators, making it a cozy but exciting place to watch top-level tennis.
- The hard court surface is typically a Plexicushion, which is also used at the Australian Open. This ensures players can get used to the conditions they’ll face in the upcoming Grand Slam a few weeks later.

Tournament Structure
The structure at Brisbane is similar to other major tennis tournaments on the ATP tour.
For both men and women, there’s a set number of players who can enter the tournament. The men’s draw has 32 singles players and it will be 24 doubles teams for both men and women. The women’s single draw usually has 30 players, however in 2024 the women’s singles draw expands to 48!
Qualifying Rounds:
Before the main tournament, there’s a qualifying event. This is where players who aren’t automatically in the main draw compete for a few remaining spots.
Main Draw:
The main part of the tournament is called the main draw. This is where the top players join those who made it through qualifying. Players are matched against each other in a classic knockout format; lose a match andyou’re out of the tournament.
The matches are usually best-of-three sets for both men and women.
Seeding
Some players are ‘seeded’. This means they are ranked higher and are spread out in the draw so they don’t play each other in the early rounds.
Seeding is based on world rankings, with the highest-ranked players getting the top seeds.
Finals
The tournament continues with rounds like the round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals and then the finals.
The finals are the last match for singles and doubles, and the winners of these matches are the champions of the tournament.
Wildcard Entries
Some players get into the tournament through a ‘wildcard’. These are special entries given to players who haven’t qualified by ranking or through the qualifying rounds. They’re often given to young, upcoming or local players and they are not to be forgotten in your Brisbane betting strategies.
Brisbane Prize Money
Players earn ranking points and prize money based on how far they get in the tournament. The further you go, the more you earn.
A new record AU$3.1 million in prize money is on offer this time in 2024. So how much does the winner get at Brisbane International? And what about the runner-up?

Betting Tips for Brisbane International
When it comes to Brisbane International betting, what to think about as a bettor?
- Hard Court Surface: Pay attention to players past performances on hard courts. Some players excel on hard surfaces, which can give them an edge in Brisbane. Look at their recent hard court results, including at the Australian Open, as it has a similar playing surface.
- Early Season Form: Since the Brisbane International is one of the first tournaments of the year, players might still be finding their rhythm. Be cautious with players who are known to start their seasons slowly or maybe had limited preparation in the off-season.
- Hot Climate: Brisbane can be quite hot and humid in January. Players who are not well-adjusted to these conditions might struggle, especially in longer matches.
- Injury Reports and Fitness: Check the latest news for any injury updates. Since it’s the start of the season, some players might be coming off injuries or might not be fully match-fit. Not only Nadal would fir this criteria…
- Past Performance in Brisbane: Look at how players have performed in Brisbane in previous years. Some players tend to perform well at specific tournaments due to familiarity with the conditions and positive past experiences.
- Head-to-Head Records: Before placing a bet on a match, check the head-to-head record between the players. Some players have playing styles that trouble their opponents, regardless of their rankings.
- Young Talents and Dark Horses: Keep an eye on up-and-coming young players or unseeded players who have the potential to cause upsets. Early tournaments often see surprising performances from lesser-known players.
- Player Motivation: Some players might use the Brisbane International primarily as preparation for the Australian Open, affecting their performance and motivation.
Remember, betting should always be done responsibly, this is just guidance and it’s important to keep to your limits.
