It’s all set for the final of the ATP Masters in Montreal and it’s not the most expected pair left, but we’re truly looking forward to the Andrey Rublev vs Alexei Popyrin clash for the Montreal Masters 1000 title.

We’ve seen some upsets among the top seeds this week in Canada and the tough weather conditions, with rain and strong winds, seem to have affected some of the big names.

Among the top seeds, Andrey Rublev has looked strong and deserves his place in the final. Alexei Popyrin is of course a big surprise to see in the event still, and he might just have had one of the best weeks in his career.

Another title for Rublev?

World no 6, Andrey Rublev, has played a mixed season in 2024, went out early in many tournaments but he is often claiming the trophies once he starts the event good. So far in Montreal, he only lost one set, and that was in the 2-1 win against world no 1 Jannik Sinner.

The Russian looked really impressive in the semi-final against Matteo Arnaldi, where he won without any bigger issues, 6-4, 6-2.

The decision to skip the Olympic tennis event and instead fully prepare for the hard court swing in North America, seem to have been great for the 26-year-old. He is of course fighting his bad temper at times but this week he seems calm and plays great tennis with really pure ball striking.

Great tournament for Popyrin

To see Alexei Popyrin in the final here is a big surprise. The Australian only has two ATP titles and this will be his first final of the season.

Popyrin in Montreal 2024

The road to the final has been impressive, taking out players such as Tomas Machac, Ben Shelton, Grigor Dimitrov, Hubert Hurkacz and Sebastian Korda. Not bad names…Twice he had to come back from 1 set down and he also had quite little rest between some of those matches.

He’s a player that always fights hard and grinds out results, but we’ve never seen it as good as this week in Canada.

H2H

They met twice on the tour and have one win each. The latest win was for Popyrin at the Monte Carlo Masters earlier this year (6-4, 6-4).

Predictions for Rublev vs Popyrin

Can Alexei Popyrin keep up this high level even in the final? Not sure if it will be enough against an in-form Rublev that has looked so good this week. The Russian rarely let a title chance slip once he’s this deep and he will control most parts of the match. The win against Sinner earlier would have given him a lot of confidence and belief that he can win this tournament.

Popyrin has a fantastic serve which will cause his opponents some problems but for most other parts, I see a slight advantage for Rublev and I believe we’ll see another title win for the no 6 ranked, Andrey Rublev!

My bet: Hcp -2.5 Rublev, at 1.65 | -150
