In the last quarter-final of the 2024 Miami Open we find world no 2 Carlos Alcaraz taking on an in-form, 11-th seeded Grigor Dimitrov in what should be a good encounter.
The 20-year-old Spaniard are just three wins away from the Sunshine Double. He would then be the first players to achieve this since Federer claimed both titles (Indian Wells and Miami Open) back in 2017.
Great season by the Bulgarian
First he needs to overcome Dimitrov, which is in good form. With his great results recently, he closing in on a place in the top 10 of the ATP world rankings.
So far he has 18 wins of 22, with the win at Brisbane the top achievement but he also had a runner-up finish at the Marseille ATP event. The Bulgarian reached this round by beating Hubert Hurkacz in an intensive match (3-6, 6-3, 7-6).
Alcaraz clear favorite
With a H2H record of 3-1 against todays opponent, Carlos Alcaraz enters this match as the clear odds favorite and the bookmakers hold him at around -600 | 1.17 | 1/6. Those kind of odds shows just how good tennis he has been playing lately…
After he slow start to the year he got back to his best at the Indian Wells and so far in Miami he is showing no weakness. To reach the quarter-finals he beat Carballes Baena and Gael Monfis before taking out Italian Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 6-3 in the previous round.
He usually likes the courts in Miami as he won the title back in 2022 and got to the semifinals last year.
Prediction and Odds
Even though we feel the odds are too low on Alcaraz, we believe he will win this match in the end. He will play on his strengths and it should be enough.
Dimitrov needs to execute his strategies perfect today if he’s to cause an upset. His strong one-handed backhand is just one of the weapons available. Some confidence can be found in the fact that he won their last meeting at the Shanghai Masters.
We’re going for a bet on Dimitrov to steal one set (might be first one…) but ending with a 2-1 set betting win for Alcaraz at the fine odds +260 | 3.60 | 13/5. Let us know your predictions in the comments!
