We’re entering day 3 of the 2024 Roland Garros and we’ve seen some surprises already from the main draw in the first two days. Today we can conclude the first round and some big names are still waiting to start their campaigns.
Novak Djokovic begins his title defence today against Pierre-Hugues Herbert, a match he should win without too much sweat. A 3-0 win for Novak pays only 1.30 at the betting sites in this night session match on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
Last years runner-up, and one of the top favorites this year, Casper Ruud starts his campaign vs Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves and even here it’s hard to see anything but a straight set win for the Norwegian.
Some of the other matches today include names such as Taylor Fritz, Tomas Machac, Alex de Minaur and Holger Rune who begin their French Open adventure before we head over to the second round tomorrow.
On the women’s side we have world No 2 Aryna Sabalenka getting her campaign started and Britain’s Katie Boulter is facing Spanish Paula Badosa.
Let’s have a look at some odds for one of todays clashes, which is pretty wide open;
Gregoire Barrere vs Alexander Bublik
In the sixth meeting in total between these two, we have 19th seed Alexander Bublik taking on Gregoire Barrere in a match to reach the 2nd round. Bublik has a slight 3-2 lead in the h2h.
Bublik, clearly the more known player of the two, is a fun player to watch and with a history of being quite loose and unfocused at times. But we haven’t seen that much of that lately and instead the Kazakh seem to show a lot of determination and fight in most performances.
Barrere has been consistent of late and will be able to stop many of Bublik’s attacks on clay, even if this surface is not a particular favorite for any of these players.
Prediction: If Bublik can show his best version today and avoid starting slow in tournaments, something we’ve seen before, I believe his will progress here, but it might take all 5 sets.
Interesting odds:
- Over 0.5, Total Number of Tiebreaks – 2.00 | +100
- 2-3 Set Betting (Bublik) – 5.50 | +450
- Bublik to win – 1.72 | -137.5
