We’re heading into the quarter-finals of the 2024 Ersta Bank Open, the Vienna ATP 500, and we’re looking into the last match of the day on Friday. It’s Jakub Mensik vs Alex de Minaur which should be an interesting clash.
Mensik, currently ranked 51 in the world, was on a fine run of form before heading into the Vienna event and so far he does not seem to slow down. Two strong performances from the Czech (against Popyrin and Kecmanovic), with no sets lost, has gotten him into this quarter-final.
The 19-year-old, one of many talented teenagers on tour, has a powerful serve and it’s been reliable throughout this tournament. He’s also been impressive near the net and we’ll see if de Minaur has a defence for this.
Alex de Minaur has suffered a bit from hip problems recently but it seems it’s not causing him any issues for now. The 10-ranked Australian is a tough opponent for anyone. He started rather slowly in Vienna against Jan-Lennard Struff but turned the match around and looked more solid in the second match where he defeated Favio Cobolli.
Mensik and de Minaur has never met before on tour.
Odds and Predictions
The betting odds for tonights match shows de Minaur as slight favorite, being the more experienced and higher ranked player. Currently at odds 1.73 | -137.5 for the Australian while a bet on Mensik gives around 2.00 | +100.
Mensik’s game seem to suit the indoor surface well and if the Czech can have a good day with his strong serve again, he’s in with a decent chance to take out de Minaur, just like Draper did at the US Open.
De Minaur has a strong record this year though, with 43-14 in total. On hard-court and indoor he also has better stats than todays opponent, with 31-10 vs Mensik’s 19-9.
