We have an interesting American battle in the third round of the ATP Rome Masters 1000 event on Sunday, where 11th seed Taylor Fritz play Sebastian Korda.
Both players reached this round by beating their Italian opponents, but in a slightly different way.
Sebastian Korda had a tough 3-set match against Flavio Cobolli where he had to work hard to come out with the win 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 after around 2 hours and 43 minutes. His serve is looking great but there still things to improve in his game.
Otherwise the American has had a rather slow start to the season with 13 wins out of 24 and I believe he truly wants to improve that here in Rome this week.
Taylor Fritz had a really good season so far and is just coming off that semi-final loss to Rublev in Madrid. Before that we saw him reach the final in Munich and of course the title at the Delray Beach Open.
He beat local Fabio Fognini in the previous round without any huge difficulties and he’s looking to go far in the Italian Open this year.
H2H Fritz vs Korda
The two Americans only played once, in the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters where Taylor Fritz won in straight sets 7-6, 7-5. Fritz has 7 career titles vs the 1 for Korda.
Predictions and Odds
Looking forward to an interesting and at times tight match where I see Fritz the more experienced and also in slightly better form at the moment.
If Korda can manage to deal with the strong serve of Fritz and take advantage of the few break points he will get, he has a chance. However, we’re going with Fritz to reach the last 16 of the Italian Open.
A few odds to consider:
- Fritz to win, 1.57 | -175
- Fritz set betting 2-0, 2.38 | +137.5
