We’re into the quarter-finals of the ATP Monte Carlo 2024 and on the last matchup of the day, Casper Ruud takes on Frenchman Ugo Humbert in a match with two in-form players, and where the Norwegian is a clear betting favorite.
Before that we’ll have some exciting matchups with Djokovic vs De Minaur, Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Karen Khachanov and Sinner with a good challenge in Holger Rune.
Humbert vs Ruud
14th seed Ugo Humbert is probably having the best season of his career and his stats on hard-courts so far are amazing, with two titles already. Now, it seems he has improved also on clay, from what we’ve seen so far in Monte Carlo, however he’s been fighting for the wins and in Casper Ruud he will have a much greater challenge than previous opponents.
The 8th seeded Casper Ruud is a superb player on clay, that we know, and he’s been in great form for a while now (even on hard courts). To reach the QF he win in impressive style over a strong opponent in Hubert Hurkacz, 6-4, 6-2.
The 25-year-old is currently 10th in the rankings but will move up just by winning this match. Ruud has a great record on clay with nine ATP titles and two final losses at the French Open among others. With a win vs Humbert, he would reach the semi’s in Monte-Carlo Masters for the first time since 2021.
Prediction and Odds
If it was hard-court, I would look at this match quite different and Humbert would have a very decent chance with the form he’s in. He’s also 3-1 up in the H2H against Ruud.
On clay though, Casper Ruud is by far the better player in most departments, and the fact is that even the Norwegian is in really good form.
Today we don’t even think the “home” advantage will be enough for Ugo to progress to the semi finals. Ruud to reach the semi’s!
