Reilly Opelka’s racquet

by Jonas Eriksson

Reilly Opelka is more seen around the fashion houses of Paris than on the tennis court these days as he is rehabbing an injury. But what is Opelka’s racquet?

Reilly Opelka’s racquet?

Reilly Opelka’s racquet is for sale at Pro Stock Tennis. It could be a fun racquet for the collection, but unless you have big hands, it might be difficult to play with. Opelka is yet another player that uses a sub-330 strung swing weight. The older players on tour are almost always higher than that, but you have players like Dan Evans, Taylor Fritz, and Carlos Alcaraz, who all play lighter.

Opelka’s most important shot is the serve, so he would need a racquet to maximize his strength, without hurting the other factors of his game too much. He uses the legendary Wilson Six One 95 and judging by the stiffness, it is probably the Hyper version.

Below you can find the specifications of Opelka’s racquet.

Specifications

Head size: 95 sq. in. / 613 sq. cm.
Length: 27 in. / 68.6 cm.
Strung weight: 12.6 oz. / 357 gr.
Strung swing weight: 329
Unstrung balance: 312 mm
Stiffness: 68
Grip size: L5 (5/8)
Grip type: Wilson synthetic + overgrip
String pattern: 16 mains / 18 crosses

Pro stock code: Wilson 6.1 95 (16×18)
Silicone: Yes

Sticker player code in throat: No

As you can see, the racquet specifications are common for all pro players using some form of the Wilson Six One 95, such as Dusan Lajovic, Dan Evans, Kyle Edmund, and Roberto Bautista-Agut: a high static weight, a head-light balance, and a pretty reasonable swing weight.

The most popular string pattern seems to be the 18×20, as used by Del Potro, Evans and Bautista-Agut, but Edmund, Kohlschreiber and Opelka are all fans of the more open and powerful 16×18.

Opelka should be healed enough from his hip injury to return to the courts, but he sustained a wrist injury shortly after that and it’s now difficult to say exactly when he will return to the tour.

I have heard that, but have not tried myself to be able to confirm.
