Tru Pro Strings

by Jonas Eriksson

The name Tru Pro Strings might not ring a bell, but Tier One strings maybe will. They have changed their name.

Tru Pro offers several websites where you can check out their strings and we set up the code TENNISNERD with them for 20% off their strings.

Tru Pro USA
Tru Pro Europe and UK
Tru Pro Global

Tru Pro strings are made in Taiwan and Germany, similar to brands like Toroline strings and Solinco who also manufacture strings in Taiwan. I have noticed that most strings manufactured in Taiwan seems to have a livelier feel and the strings made in Germany are more tailored towards players seeking control.

Tru Pro Strings – Selection

I have not tried all their strings, but a bunch of them that I will write about briefly below.

Pure Rush

The new Pure Rush string is one example of a livelier string from the Tru Pro range. It is baby blue, six-sided, 1.23, and plays with good snapback but also power and comfort. It reminds me of the Toroline string Toro Toro, which I enjoy and my father uses regularly (he is 67) at around 20 kg tension.

I liked it; it had several characteristics of excellent comfort-oriented polys that are not too soft, but I generally prefer a deader response. My arm might not always thank me, but I value that extra bit of confidence to go for my shots.

– LENGTH: 200m/656ft

– GAUGES: 15g (1.33mm), 16g (1.28mm), 17g (1.23mm), 18g (1.18mm)

– COLOR: Sky Blue

Atomos

Atomos is a firmer string. Unlike the Taiwan-made Pure Rush, Atomos is made in Germany and plays with a firmer feel. It is six-sided as well, but in silver color and in 1.25 gauge. This is what Tru Pro says about this string.

This German-lab-developed polyester string allows intermediate and advanced players to take full cuts at the ball without losing depth or directional control. Its unique geometric shape boosts access to spin and delivers an ideal balance of power and control. In addition, players can expect a uniquely plush response, high durability, and tension stability, making this string a perfect choice for the performance player.

A solid string. Suits my game better than Pure Rush, but is a little firmer and benefits from tensions around 20 kg or 45 lbs.

– GAUGES: 16g (1.30mm), 17g (1.25mm), 18g (1.20mm)

– COLOR: Silver

Ghost Wire

This is a super soft, silky smooth, round string made to be the cross string in a hybrid setup. This is what Tru Pro says about Ghost Wire

Ghost Wire is designed for players who seek the benefits of a co-polyester string but at the same time look for an elevated soft, arm-friendly playing response. Its round, slick surface makes it a superb choice for hybrid string setups!

– LENGTH: 12.2m/40ft

– GAUGES: 16g (1.27mm), 17g (1.22mm), 18g (1.17mm), 19g (1.10mm)

– COLOR: White

These are the strings we have tested thus far. There are also several other strings from Tru Pro, like a few other six-sided options like Black Knight and Durafluxx. Firewire is a triangular shaped red string, focused on lots and lots of spin. Tour Status is an 8-sided (think RPM Blast or Grapplesnake Tour M8) black string.

Our personal fave so far is Atomos, but I think most players will vibe with Pure Rush.

More to come on the topic and, of course, a video review on our YouTube channel.
