Wimbledon 2021 Predictions – First Round

by TN

The Wimbledon 2021 Draw is out and here are my Wimbledon 2021 predictions, mainly dealing with the first round.

The big question of the gentlemen’s singles tournament of Wimbledon 2021 is who is going to stop Novak Djokovic from winning his third Grand Slam in a row and getting his 20th Grand Slam title. It’s difficult to think of anyone who can do it. My best guesses are Matteo Berrettini, Daniil Medvedev, Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev, but my money is still on Novak to win the title. If you want more detailed Wimbledon 2021 predictions from the first round of the gentlemen’s singles, you should check out my video below. It’s quite long, but there are not a lot of visuals, so you can listen to it while you do other stuff if you find it interesting :)

When you look at the Wimbledon 2021 odds, they are also quite heavily in Novak’s favor. I prefer looking at decimal odds and from what I could find it looked like this:

Djokovic 1.80 (this means if you bet 10 USD/EUR on Djokovic winning and he does, you will get 18 USD/EUR)
Medvedev 8.00
Tsitsipas 9.00
Federer 11.00 (I think this is the highest odds you got on Federer win since 2002)
Berrettini 13.00
Zverev 17.00
Rublev 34.00
Shapovalov 51.00
Auger-Aliassime 67.00
Cilic 67.00
Murray 81.00
Sinner 81.00
Humber 81.00
De Minaur 101.00
Kyrgios 101.00

I have hard time seeing outside the top 6 odds favorites winning Wimbledon 2021. I also think Tsitsipas might be a little mentally fried after losing the French Open final and he is not as natural on grass as he is on clay. Medvedev’s flatter shots should suit the surface well and Berrettini’s power game should also be dangerous. Federer has won it eight times, but his warm-up was less than ideal, so it’s hard to know if he has enough tennis in his legs to be able to compete for a grand slam title.

I think we have a first time grand slam champion this year at Wimbledon. Medvedev would be the natural choice but I could see him losing before the semis too. I also ordered a Babolat Pure Storm Tour Plus the other day and can’t wait to bomb some serves and forehands!

Ideally it’d be great to have new blood lift the title….however the reality is that Djokovic will lift the Wimbledon & US Open to claim GOAT. I’m not avid fan of him, but I realise he can achieve this.
