We are in the second week, and it’s time for our Australian Open Quarter-Final Predictions. We have some exciting matches ahead of us.
You can watch the video of these predictions on the Tennisnerd YouTube channel. Let’s start with the Men’s.
Men’s Quarter-Finals
Djokovic vs Fritz
People have talked about Djokovic suffering from an illness and not looking quite right. But this is Djokovic. He wins anyway. He has struggled in the tournament, but an exhausted Mannarino proved not to be much of a test. We can be sure that Fritz will provide a sterner match for Djokovic. But based on their head-to-head, which is 8-0 to Djokovic, I don’t see how he will win more than a set. He need to go for all-out attack and hope that he has a great day and Novak doesn’t. You can check out some Djokovic vs Fritz betting options here.
Prediction: Djokovic 3-1
Sinner vs Rublev
Sinner has sailed through this draw like a hot knife through butter. He has not yet lost a set and looks like a possible winner, even when faced with Alcaraz or Djokovic. Rublev has also played great tennis, but not quite on the same level as his opponent in the quarter-finals. They both play heavy baseline tennis, but Sinner moves better and handles these situations more naturally. Rublev has a 0-9 record so far in the quarter-finals, we will see if he can reverse that, but it doesn’t look likely.
Prediction: Sinner 3-1
Hurkacz vs Medvedev
This is the toughest match-up on paper. Hurkacz has beaten Medvedev in their two most recent encounters (2022), but a five-set match in a Grand Slam is always different. I think there is a high likelihood this match goes five sets, but I would pick Medvedev based on more experience and better results in this type of situation. He is a problem-solver and always seems to find a way.
Prediction: Medvedev 3-2
Zverev vs Alcaraz
Zverev has had to fight a lot in this tournament but has done so successfully so far. He has a strong fighter mentality, and if the match goes down the wire, he is a guy to bet on. But he is playing Alcaraz, and it does look unlikely that this match will go to five sets. Alcaraz, not quite as smooth as Sinner, but smooth, looks to be doing well both physically and mentally and that paired with his talent should help him to the victory here.
Prediction: Alcaraz 3-1
These results would lead us to two mouthwatering semi-finals: Djokovic vs Sinner and Medvedev vs Alcaraz. Let’s see if this happens. Check out our best tennis betting sites if you want to place a bet.
Women’s Quarter-Finals
Noskova vs Yastremska
This one is a tough one to predict. Noskova got something close to a bye when Svitolina had to retire from the match while leading 3-0. At the same time, Yastremska has played her best tennis in years (her best GS result ever, previously a 4th-round Wimbledon showing in 2019). Neither player has been in this situation before, which should lead to some nerves from both players, but I think Yastremska will handle it better.
Prediction: Yastremska 2-1
Kalinskaya vs Zheng
Another tough match-up on paper, but Zheng has been the more impressive player to me. She has the seeding for a reason and despite it being a draw that keeps surprising us, I believe that Zheng is the more stable player and will win this relatively comfortably.
Prediction: Zheng 2-0
Kostyuk vs Gauff
Here is another Ukrainian player doing great at this year’s Australian Open. However, the opponent is a tough one. Alongside Sabalenka, Gauff is the most in-form player at the first slam of the year and I think she has too much game for Kostyuk.
Prediction: Gauff 2-0
Krejcikova vs Sabalenka
Sabalenka has not been easy on her opponents at this year’s Australian Open. She did not gave Tsurenko a game, but Krejcikova should be her first real challenge. She still has a 5-1 head-to-head and the way she is hitting the ball, I don’t think Krejcikova has much of a chance.
Prediction: Sabalenka 2-0
