Hong Kong Open Predictions
The field at the Hong Kong Open is not nearly as strong as the Brisbane International ATP 250. But there are some interesting players to look at.
Out of the seeds, Andrey Rublev is at the top. He had a disappointing finish to the year at the ATP finals, with three losses and not a single set won. This will be a chance to bounce back and start the year in style.
The player that could potentially trip him up is Frances Tiafoe. Tiafoe has a new coach in Diego Amoyano, we talked about this in our recent mixed bag video. It’s always fascinating to see how any type of change, whether it is team or gear, affects the player.
Another player I’m curious about is Lorenzo Musetti. He was not a hundred percent at the Davis Cup finals, but his team still won it. He gets a pretty straightforward wildcard match in the first round, but can he find the confidence and consistency to go through the draw? He might be tripped up by Karen Khachanov in the quarter-finals, though. However, Musetti did win their single battle in 2023.
Khachanov had a good Australian swing, with an impressive semi-final spot at the Australian Open.
Besides that group of players, I believe Arthur Fils is an outsider in the draw and a potential quarter-finalist against Rublev.
Prediction: Rublev to win the title after defeating Khachanov in the final. Not the most exciting prediction, but I do think they are the most stable players in the field.
