The excitement of the Olympic tennis tournament is behind us, with Novak Djokovic still celebrating his first Olympic gold, but the ATP tennis season is moving forward. After the Masters tournament in Cincinnati (August 11-18), we’ll be witnessing the pinnacle of the season: US Open 2024.

This article analyzes who is the most probable winner in the men’s competition.

Carlos Alcaraz – Youth and Skills

Alcaraz lost the final match in the Paris Olympics to Djokovic, but he defeated him only a month before at Wimbledon. Carlos also won this year’s Roland Garros. As the Olympic tournament was played on the Roland Garros courts, Alcaraz’s defeat came as a surprise.

But the US Open is a perfect opportunity for the young Spaniard to add the second Grand Slam title this year to his trophy cabinet, the fifth altogether. Although born in 2003, he’s already won four Grand Slam titles, building his reputation as a daring and determined player.

Our prediction is that Carlos Alcaraz will get to the finals at this year’s US Open and we’ll see what happens next. Whoever will be standing on the other side of the court, entertainment is guaranteed, plus, Alcaraz already won this tournament in 2022, so he knows the drill. Besides, every Grand Slam final is a chance for spectators to put their money where their mouth is, with  many of the best providers ensuring a huge range of odds and free deposits (Source: sportscasting.com). Wagering during a tie-break always spices things up, making the thrill of watching a US Open final even more exciting.

Novak Djokovic – Perseverance and Focus

At the age of 37, Novak Djokovic still keeps his performance on an incredibly high level. He already has four US Open titles (2011, 2015, 2018, and 2023), and he has finally won the Olympic gold medal in his fifth participation. Given the above, there might be a slight lack of motivation for Novak to reach out for the high-hanging fruits at Arthur Ashe Stadium. And this is the most dangerous thought for Novak’s rivals – assuming that he isn’t hungry for success anymore. HIs perseverance and sharp focus on success have made him the most successful tennis player in history.

Always particularly inspired by the atmosphere and the specifics of the US Open, Djokovic is highly likely to reach at least the semi-finals. Also, let’s not forget that he underwent knee surgery between Roland Garros and Wimbledon this year, and he still hasn’t recovered fully from that treatment.

Janik Sinner – The Current Number One

Currently the leading racket on the ATP list, Janik Sinner skipped the Olympics because of his tonsillitis. The US Open is an opportunity for the 23-year-old Italian to make up for the missed opportunity to serve for an Olympic gold.

With the Australian Open 2024 already under his belt, adding the second Grand Slam title to his collection would be a tremendous boost for his self-confidence (and his race for the year’s end first position in the ATP rankings).

Given the incredible power and precision of his serving skills, Skinner prefers hard courts. That’s why was so successful in Melbourne, and he has recently won the Montreal Masters tournament. But let’s wait for the US Open to start and we’ll see how other players will respond to Sinner’s tactics. Fun fact: if Janik wins the US Open, he will be the first male Italian tennis player to reach that success. Flavia Pennetta won the same title in 2015.

Daniil Medvedev – In for the Second Title

A three-time finalist of the Australian Open and a one-time winner of the US Open so far, Daniil Medvedev is now an experienced player. This 28-year-old Muscovite currently residing in Monte Carlo left a special mark on this tournament in 2021, when he defeated Djokovic in the finals, in a three-set match.

Since then, he’s been a consistent member of the Top 10 players, which is why his third-round elimination from the Olympics came as an unpleasant surprise. Clay has never been his favorite surface, but the hard court in the middle of the Flushing Meadows is something else.

We’ll certainly see Daniil deep in the final rounds of the US Open 2024. If he stays healthy, we might just witness a rerun of the Alcaraz-Medvedev Wimbledon semis and enjoy the magnificent performances of these two outstanding athletes.

Alexander Zverev – Ready for the New Frontiers

Alexander Zverev has been around the top rankings in the last four years, with two Grand Slam finals on his results page: Roland Garros this year and the US Open in 2024. Although a clay-first player, he also likes hard courts, and he has profiled himself as an all-surface player in the last two years.

This 27-year-old German is entering the zenith of his career, and tennis fans agree that we should soon see him winning a major title. After the elimination in the quarter-finals of the Olympic tournament to Musetti, the US Open is a perfect opportunity for a comeback and his first Grand Slam trophy.
