We’re starting to see some real nice matches coming up in the 2024 Miami Masters tournament and it’s time for some tennis betting today.
Andy Murray vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry
In the evening today (European time) 62-ranked Andy Murray will take on the no 30-ranked Argentine Etcheverry in the Miami Open round of 64.
The Brit is looking to turn over a two match losing streak against Etcheverry in their H2H stats, and with a win here maybe the season can really take a turning point for Murray.
He’s coming from a really impressive win against Matteo Berrettini (4-6 6-3 6-4) where both players looked in good form to be honest. Murray has gone out too quickly from all tournaments lately and we feel this is a decent chance to go at least three rounds in.
Etcheverry’s form unknown
Tomas Martin Etcheverry hasn’t played competitive tennis in over a month and we can’t really see him finding his best level right away here in Miami. On top of that Murray’s playing style should be quite good suited vs the Argentinian.
His record on hard-court is not that great and he hasn’t played a game on this surface since February.
Etcheverry won their last meeting quite easily, in straight sets in the Australian Open earlier this year. However, since then he has been dealing with an ankle injury and he only won three matches since.
Prediction and Odds
We think Murray has a good chance here if he can deal with Etcheverry’s power from the baseline, even if he doesn’t exactly move like in the old days. The 36-year-old has been very accurate with his first serve in the last few games and he might be able to pick up some easy points today.
Looking at the odds, it seems the betting sites want punters to back Etcheverry. Being the higher ranked player, and also leading the head-to-head, the odds 2.38 | 11/8 | +137.5 is unusual.
Hopefully we can see a Murray back to at least close to the player he once was. At odds 1.60 it’s a decent bet.
