Nadal vs Thiem Prediction

by Jonas Eriksson

What a match we have today in the Brisbane ATP tournament! Here is our Nadal vs Thiem prediction. Who do you think will win?

Nadal is back in action after a long injury timeout and as usual, the talk is that he is just happy to be back. But we know Rafa. He is of course happy to be on the court again, but his warrior mentality will want him to win this match and show the world that he is ready.

Players like Holger Rune and Andy Murray have praised Nadal’s level in practice, but Nadal stoically commented:

“If you ask my colleagues how I feel, they will not come here and say, ‘Rafa is playing like a disaster. It’s obvious, no?’ “I feel what they said does not much value because you won’t talk negative things about colleagues.”

Rafael Nadal

But I have seen Rafa practice live numerous times, and I know that he brings his 100% into practice. I’m sure he is actually really impressive already, but the big question is how he handles his nerves and his game on the match court.

It’s pretty much impossible predict how he will perform in his first match back, but we will give it at try.

Dominic Thiem slowly climbing back

Thiem has had a looooong way back from his wrist injury and the mental fatigue after winning the US Open in 2020. It looked pretty hopeless at times, but he has climbed inside the top 100 again and the prediction for 2024 is that he will keep doing that.

But how far can he go? We have seen it with Stan Wawrinka and Andy Murray, where there is heart and desire to compete to their former level, but the modern tennis world (or their bodies) won’t allow them to. The level keeps moving up. More and more young and dangerous players arrive on the scene. Maybe Thiem can win an ATP 250 or 500 on clay, but I don’t see him coming back to the top 10 or even 20 players in 2024.

If you’re interested in tennis betting, we have set up a Brisbane International betting page. Make sure to gamble responsibly and not for more than you can afford to lose.

Our bet would have to go on Nadal. Thiem has not been impressive enough and I believe Nadal will enjoy playing someone he knows how to beat for his first match. However, in the last two matches they played in 2020, Thiem won. But in 2020 he was in the best form of his life. I don’t think his backhand is back to where it was then and that is something Nadal can utilize with his heavy top spin.

According to the best tennis betting sites, Nadal is the favorite, and a win by 2-1 in sets will net about 3.6 times your bet.

Prediction: Nadal to win in 3 sets.
