Wimbledon 2023 Day 7 Predictions

Before we get into today’s Wimbledon predictions, let’s see how I did yesterday.

One point will be awarded if I correctly guess the winner of the match, and a bonus point if I correctly guess the number of sets it took them to win.

Today’s matches

Ps. If you’re into tennis betting, we have some advice and resources on the site from our betting expert. We advise you not to bet more than you can afford to lose and not bet at all if you think you might have a gambling problem. Ds

Andrey Rublev (7) vs Alexander Bublik (23)

Bublik has been in tremendous form this week, having dropped only one set. Standing in his way is the 7th seed Andrey Rublev. Rublev is one of the most consistent players in reaching the second week of the majors. He’s reached the quarter-final three times in his last five major appearances. His best result at Wimbledon came in 2021 when he made the fourth round. The big-serving and crafty Bublik is looking to reach his first-ever major fourth round. As solid as Rublev is from the back of the court, Bublik has the game to disrupt the Russian. Given the Kazakh’s current form, I think he will beat Rublev.

Prediction – Bublik to win in 4 sets

Iga Swiatek (1) vs Belinda Bencic (14)

The world number 1 has been in imperious form this week. Swiatek will need to continue this as she meets Belinda Bencic. This match is all to play for as Swiatek and Bencic look to break new ground and make the second-week for the first time. Both players never made it beyond the fourth-round at SW19 even though the Pole and the Swiss are former Wimbledon girls champions. Bencic had an impressive win against Linette in the third-round and will look to take the ball early and move Swiatek around the court. The only problem for Bencic is that Swiatek arguably takes the ball even earlier and is one of the best movers on tour. As good as Bencic is, Swiatek is just on another level.

Prediction – Swiatek to win in 2 sets

Novak Djokovic (2) vs Hubert Hurkacz (17)

Djokovic displayed his full repertoire in the third round, easily dispatching Stan Wawrinka. Hurkacz better be re-watching his encounter with Djokovic at the 2019 Championships if he can win this match. On that day, the Pole did Djokovic work, taking the second set in a tie-break and pushing Djokovic before falling in four sets. Hurkacz has the serve to race through his service games, giving him a chance to make the match close. However, Djokovic is the best returner in the world and will make the Pole hit pay if his serve is not firing.

Prediction – Djokovic in 3 sets

Jessica Pegula (4) vs Lesia Tsurenko

Wimbledon is the only major where Pegula hasn’t made the quarter-final stage. She has a chance to change that against Tsurenko. Tsurenko herself entered the history books in her third-round match. The Ukrainian won the longest-ever women’s singles tiebreak in major history, as she defeated Ana Bogdan, 20-18 in the final set tiebreak. A grueling 3 hours and 40 minutes of play surely has to take its toll on the Ukrainian. Tsurenko is the more experienced grass court player but Pegula is the better player so this could be another long match.

Prediction- Pegula to win in 3 sets

Jannik Sinner (8) vs Daniel Galan

Sinner is quietly making a hideaway through the draw and has only dropped one set so far in the tournament. Galan has done well to reach the fourth-round with two impressive wins over big-serving, Oscar Otte and Mikael Ymer. However, this will be a step too far for the Colombian.

Prediction – Sinner to win in 3 sets

Victoria Azarenka (19) vs Elina Svitolina

A throwback match between the two-time major winner Azarenka and the former world number 3, Svitolina. This fortnight, both players have reminded us they can still challenge for the biggest titles in the world. Azarenka produced a stunning performance to knock out Kasatkina in straight sets. The same can be said for Svitolina who stopped the run of Sofia Kenin. Azarenka leads the head-to-head convincingly, 5-0 but I wouldn’t read too much into it as they’ve played very little in recent years. This match could go either way but I’m going to give the edge to Svitolina.

Prediction – Svitolina to win in 3 sets
