While most tennis nerds are familiar with the classic clay, grass and hard courts at your local clubs, there’s a lot of extraordinary and beautiful tennis courts out there that offer a completely different experience.
When thinking of tennis travel, it’s good to sometimes just get some inspiration and ideas. So, let’s check out five of the most unique and stunning tennis courts around the globe, where the beauty of the location take over the thrill of the actual game!
Il San Pietro di Positano, Italy
A hard court tennis court squeezed in between the cliffs of the beautiful Amalfi Cost, just meters from the Mediterranean Sea. Surely one of the top tennis spots in Europe. As we are big fans of traveling in Italy, this one goes first on the list. You need to be a resort guest to play at these courts.
La Cavalerie Club, France
A unique tennis court, La Cavalerie Club is located in a wooden hall on the top floor of a 7-story Art Deco building constructed back in 1924.
Here it’s possible for anyone to rent a court time and you’ll also have views of the Eiffel Tower from the terrace.
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
The courts at the Singita Sasakwa Lodge are located in the middle of the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania (southeast Africa). With great views over the African land, and a lot of wildlife around you, this is one for the bucket list.
International Tennis Hall of Fame, USA
A truly historic place, this court was actually home to the US National Championship (later US Open) between 1881 – 1914. Located in Newport, Rhode Island.
Nowadays you can rent one of the 20 courts here but it’s quite expensive. Don’t miss the museum which offers a lot of tennis history and old, vintage tennis gear.
Bunabhainneadar Tennis Court, Scotland
Surely the most remote court on the list, the Bunabhainneadar Tennis Court, located on one of Scotland’s northern islands is truly unique. Run by a charitable foundation, this court is possible to rent. Might be a bit of hassle to get there though…
