BOSS Open 2023 player line-up

It is soon time for the grass court season! The Boss Open 2023 player line-up so far looks great with six top 20 starts signed up to play already.

Boss Open 2023 Player Line-Up

Boss Open is one of my favorite tournaments of the year and a recent press release announced an exciting field of players for the 2023 edition. The tournament takes place from June 10 to 18 in Stuttgart. Players include starts like Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Matteo Berrettini, Lorenzo Musetti, Grigor Dimitrov, Tommy Paul, Hubert Hurkacz and Wu Yibing. This is what the press release says:

According to the current status, the top four Fritz, Tiafoe, Hurkacz and Paul will enjoy a bye in the first round of the BOSS OPEN. This also means that the first two days of the main draw (Monday and Tuesday, June 12/13) will feature stars like Matteo Berrettini, Lorenzo Musetti (both ITA), Nick Kyrgios (AUS), Denis Shapovalov (CAN) and Grigor Dimitrov (BUL). German local hero Jan-Lennard Struff is also expected to take part in the action at the Weissenhof on one of these two days.

“The field of participants in this year’s BOSS OPEN features many different types of players. This guarantees an interesting tournament and grass court tennis at the top level. In addition, we still have three wildcards at our disposal, the allocation of which is also dependent on how the French Open in Paris will play out. Regardless, the BOSS OPEN will offer exciting and top-class matches from the first day of the main draw”, tournament director Edwin Weindorfer is convinced.

Update: Tsitsipas joins Boss Open as the first seed

Thanks to a wild card, the current world number five, Stefanos Tsitsipas, will participate in the ATP grass court tournament at Stuttgart’s Weissenhof. “The Weissenhof is a club with a lot of tradition, and I am looking forward to starting my grass court preparation here next week”, said Tsitsipas.

The current world number five won his first ATP title on grass last season at the Mallorca Championships, which like the BOSS OPEN is organized by “e|motion sports”, and has thus already won tournaments on all surfaces (grass, clay, hard court) on the ATP Tour. Overall, Tsitsipas has nine tournament victories to his name. In the current season, the 24-year-old has reached the finals of the Australian Open in Melbourne and Barcelona. He also reached the semifinals in Rome and most recently, the round of the last eight at the French Open in Paris.

“We are delighted that Stefanos Tsitsipas, another top ten star, will be competing at this year’s BOSS OPEN. With his tournament victory last year at the Mallorca Championships, he has also proven his qualities on grass. With his participation, the circle of favorites in Stuttgart has become even bigger,” explained Tournament Director Edwin Weindorfer.

Nick Kyrgios and Matteo Berrettini have already arrived in Stuttgart

Italian defending champion Matteo Berrettini and Australian Nick Kyrgios have already arrived in Stuttgart on Thursday! BOSS brand ambassador Berrettini has already triumphed twice (2019, 2022) at the grass-court highlight and is still unbeaten after nine matches at the Weissenhof. Kyrgios reached the semifinals in both 2018 and 2022.

Zverev has also joined the field

“I am very pleased to be part of this year’s BOSS OPEN. The tournaments in Germany have a great significance for me. I love playing in front of my fans. I come to Stuttgart with the goal of getting off to a good start to the grass-court season,” emphasized Alexander Zverev, who has already demonstrated his qualities on grass courts with two appearances in the Halle finals (2016, 2017).

Former world number two Tommy Haas says: “With such a well-balanced field, it’s almost impossible to narrow down the favorites to win the tournament. The three US Americans will certainly be worth watching out for. Taylor Fritz won in Indian Wells last year and also showed that he is at home on fast surfaces with two tournament victories in Eastbourne (2019 and 2022). And anyone who has reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament, like Frances Tiafoe at the US Open last year and Tommy Paul at the Australian Open this season, must also be taken very seriously. I’m already curious to see how Alexander Zverev will present himself after missing the grass court season last year following the ankle injury he suffered in Paris,” explains the BOSS-OPEN ambassador and tournament director of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells.
