In the second quarter-final of the 2024 Davis Cup Finals, we see Germany take on the 2022 winners, Canada. The winner will progress to the semi-finals where they will face the winner of the Netherlands vs Spain match.
Germany, that haven’t won the Davis Cup title since 1993, are slight favorites in this quarter-final. However, the Canadians actually beat Germany in the quarterfinals of the 2022 event where they later went on to win the cup, so maybe that’s a good sign for them. Both teams now have four of the five players that played back then.
Both Germany and Canada are without their top ranked players for Wednesday’s game. Germany will surely miss world no 2 Alexander Zverev and the Canadians will have to do without 29th ranked Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Top players
So what players to look out for? Germany surely have high hopes for Jan-Lennard Struff that can reach a very high level at times, while at Team Canada, most eyes will be on 56th ranked Denis Shapovalov as well as Milos Raonic.
Struff and Shapovalov actually met in their meeting here in Malaga two years ago and it was an even affair where the German got the victory after tie-break in the third set. They also met nine times on tour where Struff have won six of them.
Apart from Struff we will see Daniel Altmaier (88th ranked) and Yannick Hanfmann (95th ranked) playing singles for Team Germany.
In the doubles Germany looks the stronger team with Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz, that just won the ATP Finals doubles event. These two are 14-1 in total as a team playing Davis Cup!

Odds and Predictions for Germany v Canada
In the betting odds, we see Germany as favorites at odds 1.79 | -125 against Canada at 2.07 | +107.
It might once again be a tough clash, like back in 2022. The Canadians are not in hot form at the moment and Struff together with their strong doubles team might be enough for Germany to get their revenge.
Prediction: Germany to win.
