Round 2 of the ATP Monte Carlo event and a lot of interesting match-ups. Following the news that Carlos Alcaraz is out, Sinner is the big odds favorite at the tennis sportsbooks.
First of all he must overcome American Sebastian Korda, that actually won their most recent match back in Adelaide last year.
Later in the day we also have a striking hot Indian player in Sumit Nagal, taking on Holger Rune, following his first round win over Matteo Arnoldi.
Sebastian Korda vs Jannik Sinner
Sinner has moved up to no 2 in the world rankings and if he continue with a similar form in the clay season, it won’t be long until he’s no 1. The 22-year-old is 22-1 so far this year and in the last 2 games in Miami he looked completely unstoppable.
Their H2H is 1-1 and Korda won their last meeting at Adelaide. However, since then Sinner has gone from strength to strength while the American has not progressed as much as he wanted.
“He’s had an unbelievable season and it’s going to be our first meeting on the clay. I’m just going to try to go out there, try my best, and see what happens.” was Corda’s comment on the match against Sinner.
Of course, everyone is wondering how Sinner will do on the clay surface now. With the level he’s on at the moment, I think he will do just fine… 27-ranked Korda is a decent player on clay and actually, one of his biggest wins came vs Carlos Alcaraz at Monte Carlo back in 2022.
Prediction: Korda will claim a fair amount of games but Sinner to win in straight sets and progress to the third round in Monte Carlo.
- Sinner in 2 – 1.44 | -225 | 4/9
- Over 18.5 Games – 1.50 | -200 | 1/2
Holger Rune vs Sumit Nagal
So the next match to cover today features another big odds favorite in Holger Rune, however, this one does not feel as certain.
World no 7 Holger Rune is overall the better player here, with a lot of experience. With that said, he didn’t win one match in Miami and this is actually his first singles match on clay this season. The Dane can be a top clay-court player at times but his form has just been very inconsistent over the last year and we’ve seen a few really poor performances.
Sumit Nagal is of course full of confidence at the moment and made history in the last match, when he became the first male Indian player to win a Masters 1000 match on clay.
While Rune hardly played on the red dirt this season, 93-ranked Nagal claimed four wins on clay in the last eight days. He has also specifically said that clay is his favorite surface and we’ll surely see his aggressive shots from the baseline here again.
Prediction: I think Holger Rune will overcome the strong Indian and progress to the next round, the question is just how much upset can Nagal cause in his current form? Some interesting bets…
- Over 0.5, Total Number of Tiebreaks – 3.00 | +200 | 2/1
- Nagal, Sumit +4.5, Game Handicap – 1.80 | -125 | 4/5
