Thursday will see the remaining two quarter-finals of the 2024 Davis Cup and first out is USA v Australia. An interesting clash we look forward to between the two most successful teams in the tournaments history.
Team USA coach Bob Bryan (previous legend in Davis Cup) has a great team to work with. For the singles, of course the Americans put great hope in Taylor Fritz, coming from his best ever season and new world no 4 in the rankings. USA also have top options for the second singles with Ben Shelton and Tommy Paul.
All of these players love it on hard-courts and find themselves in good form. US haven’t won the Davis Cup since 2007 but is now 2nd favorite to win, just after the Italians.
Not too shabby in the doubles department either, with Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek, the doubles specialists who took silver at the Paris Olympics last summer.
Team USA got a tough draw though and will face a real challenge right away…
De Minaur joining Team Australia
Another team with a rich Davis Cup history is of course Australia, and they come with an interesting squad this year.
Boosted by the last minute arrival of world no 9, Alex de Minaur, their singles options, also with Popyrin and Kokkinakis, are looking good. Will they be enough against the Americans though?
“I’m very happy to be back here. Obviously it’s been a tough year with injuries, but I am feeling a lot better and I’m feeling quite fit and ready to compete,” commented de Minaur.
Mathew Ebden will lead their doubles pairing and here they have a good chance if they get through the singles.

Odds and Predictions for USA v Australia
Team USA are quite clear favorite among bookmakers, around odds 1.57 | -175 while a win for Australia gives 2.50 | +150. We hold them as favorites here as well , looking especially at the singles options.
The second singles match will be important here and we know Alexei Popyrin can beat basically anyone when he finds his top form. Something we saw in the Canadian Open not at least. The problem is that it’s not always there and he needs it to beat Paul or Shelton on Thursday.
Prediction: USA to win and progress to the semi’s.
