The 2024 season is slowly coming to an end, and with that, itโs time to look ahead at what might happen in 2025. With the way the Grand Slams shaped up this year, there is growing curiosity about whether anyone can challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. Letโs take a very early look at the Slams of next year.
Australian Open: Could Djokovic Get His 25th?
The 2025 Australian Open is the first Grand Slam of the year, played on hard courts. It generally plays on the quicker side, though most matches are won from the baseline. This is why baseline powerhouses like Djokovic and Medvedev have done really well here over the years but it also means that Alcaraz and Sinner might not be easy to beat.ย
Australian Open is being played from Sunday, January 12th โ Sunday, January 26, 2025
- Novak Djokovic
As a player who dominated at the event for years, Novak Djokovic is the most likely to prevent either Alcaraz or Sinner from winning. If he can find his best tennis, something he had at the Paris Olympics, he can win the event. For the moment he is actually the odds favorite at many sportsbooks to win the tournament, around 2.75 | +175.
- Daniil Medvedev
As a player who stood in the Australian Open final this year, Medvedev clearly has a chance to do it again. Medvedev has beaten both Sinner and Alcaraz at different times, which means he can do it, but he will need his absolute best to get it done. Currently a bet on Medvedev gives around eight times the money in the betting odds.
- Alexander Zverev
Zverev is one of those players that can go a level up from what weโve seen from him, though he hasnโt been able to do it yet. If he somehow manages to, he could become a problem for both Sinner and Alcaraz.

French Open: Zverev, Finally?
The French Open is the second Grand Slam in the calendar, and it’s the only one played on clay. That makes it somewhat unique because it changes the preview a little bit. There are some players who get bumped up as potential winners so the chances of an upset are bigger.
The French Open (Roland Garros) is being played from Sunday, May 25th โ Sunday, Jun 8th, 2025
- Alexander Zverev
While Djokovic won the Olympics, Zverev is more likely to upset these two due to the format. He can play for days and heโs been very good in Paris. Heโs been so good that not winning Roland-Garros one day would be a massive failure. It could happen next year. He has the tools and he stood in the final; he just missed out on it.
- Novak Djokovic
Djokovicโs performance at the Olympics showed us that he can still outplay some of the best when he finds his best tennis. If he somehow finds it again, he might challenge in Paris, though the best-of-five format will make it very tough as heโs not the youngest anymore.
- Lorenzo Musetti
This might be a surprise to some, but Lorenzo Musetti is absolutely wonderful on clay. He showed it at the Olympics, finishing third, and with more experience and minor improvements, he could become a problem. Heโs slowly been improving and becoming really good, so why not?
Wimbledon: Can Draper Break Through?
The only Grand Slam on grass creates an interesting dynamic on the Tour because not many players are great on grass. Itโs why Djokovic dominated Wimbledon for so long, but we have a new champion who is dominating now.
Wimbledon is being played from Monday, June 30th โ Sunday July 13th, 2025
- Novak Djokovic
The only realistic chance to really upset Sinner and Alcaraz in London is Djokovic. Itโs mostly because heโs been so good on grass and itโs not the most physically demanding type of court. If he gets a good serving week and a good returning week, he could get it done.
- Taylor Fritz
While some might have expected Medvedev here considering his good performances at Wimbledon in the past and the fact that he beat Sinner in 2024 at the event, he canโt deal with Alcaraz.
Taylor Fritz is an interesting player who can be very overwhelming from the baseline. He also has a massive serve, which is a pretty good combo for grass, and with a bit of luck, he could go all the way.
- Jack Draper
Draper is a player who has been rapidly improving and making deep runs. Heโs British, so heโs very good on grass, which he confirmed by winning Stuttgart in 2024. Heโs also capable from the serve and baseline, making him a tricky player to beat generally. With a bit of luck, it could happen.
US Open: Best Chance of an Upset
This is the final Grand Slam of the season, and itโs a unique one. The US Open plays on the faster side, with serves being a major weapon, but as with any hard court match, it ultimately comes down to baseline play.
US Open is being played from Monday, August 25th โ Sunday, September 7th, 2025
- Alexander Zverevย
With a good serving performance and some aggressive play from the baseline, Zverev could be a massive problem in New York. He hasnโt really done it yet, but he made a final a few years ago and nearly won it, so he can do it.
- Taylor Fritz
Fritz already made one final, and while he lost to Sinner in 2024, the American learned a valuable lesson that day. With a bit of luck and some minor tweaks in his game, he could find himself in another one. He likely wouldnโt make the same mistakes, which makes this somewhat likely to happen.
- Ben Shelton
This might be an odd selection, but Ben Shelton has the profile of a player who will win the event one day. Depending on how well he improves, he could find himself good enough to challenge for the trophy. Stranger things have happened.
