Osaka’s new string setup

by Jonas Eriksson

Today, we published another Mixed Bag video, including Osaka’s new string setup and many other gear changes on the pro tour.

You can find the video on our YouTube channel. But we will include the most important points below.

Naomi Osaka’s new string setup

Naomi Osaka is back on tour after her maternal leave. She started with a win against Tamara Korpatsch. Noticeable, besides her aggressive and positive play, was that she did not have her standard natural gut in the crosses, but rather a black string. It could be a poly like Poly Tour Strike or perhaps even a colored multifilament like a black Rexis Speed (seems unlikely, though). There is more information about Naomi Osaka’s racquet here.

If anyone has any information to share, feel to reach out via Instagram or write in the comments field.

Maria Sakkari to Shift

We already made a video about Maria Sakkari testing a Shift. Now the shift has been confirmed. She is playing her 2024 season with the Wilson Shift 99 (click for my review). It will be interesting to see how this affects her season.

Borna Coric with a new racquet

Borna Coric is another Wilson player who has made a racquet switch (he has also changed shoes from the Asics Court FF to the Gel Resolution 9). He used to play with a rare Wilson Pro stock called P25 painted as an Ultra Pro, but has now been seen using what looks like a Wilson H22 painted like the new Wilson Blade V9.

Brandon Nakashima to VCORE 98

Nakashima’s switch from Pure Strike to Ezone 98 was pretty short-lived. For the 2024 season, he will play with the Yonex VCORE 98 (click for review). He started with a win in a Challenger event, so that’s a good start.

Christian Garin to Wilson

Christian Garin has been back and forth between racquets and brands for the last couple of years. But it seems like he has let go of the Radical he was using and is now playing with what looks like a Blade. We will let you know as soon as we know more.

There are also some shoe and apparel updates for the pros, you watch the video on YouTube for that information.
