It is official Ladies and Gentlemen – the 2024 Wimbledon draw has been published. And while the big names and their draws of course get most of the attention, we want to look into the details of the singles draws here and the best matchups.

The Top Seeds for 2024

Of course, the Wimbledon Championships have changed their seeding logic previously from their own grass-court logic to the ATP/WTA tour seedings. This seems like a more logic and fair choice to me, even though fans would love to see the crowd favorites seeded higher at times, like Roger enjoyed at Wimbledon for years. But this year, the top seeds will be according to the tour standings at cut-off date, which unfortunately hurt a few players with a good run recently, like Giovanni Mpetshi-Perricard.

The men’s seedings are: Sinner (1), Djokovic (2), Alcaraz (3), Zverev (4), Medvedev (5), Rublev (6), Hurkacz (7), Ruud (8), DeMinaur (9) and Dimitrov (10). Special mentions of other dangerous seeds go to Queens champ Paul (12), Korda (20), Musetti (25) and Draper (28). You wouldn’t necessarily want these players in your early rounds, as they seem to be in full swing on grass already.

The women’s seedings have: Swiatek (1), Gauff (2), Sabalenka (3), Rybakina (4), Pegula (5), Vondrousova (6), Paolini (7), Zheng (8), Sakkari (9), Jabeur (10). Especially dangerous to me are further seeds Ostapenko (13), Kasatkina (14), Kalinskaya (17) and Boulter (32). If her wrist holds up, I think that Karolina Muchova basically is another seeded player at level, which makes her a very dangerous draw at the women’s board.

The Wimbledon Draw – Women’s Field

For the women, the top half looks stacked. Granted, Iga Swiatek isn’t the top favorite on grass in any case, but with Ostapenko, Collins, defending champ Vondrousova and Rybakina, this is surely a tough draw to go through. Add in the lower seeded players there like Haddad Maia and Kalinskaya, plus the part of the draw with Jabeur, Boulter und Svitolina and you can easily argue that this is the tougher part of the draw.

The lower half has quite a few question marks included, as Sabalenka pulled out of Berlin with a shoulder issue and other top seeds like Paolini are not expected to perform as well on grass as others. So, Coco Gauff could have landed the easier part of the draw here, which could lead her to a career best finish at Wimbledon, which previously has been the round of 16. As of now her Wimbledon winner odds are at 8.50 | +750 at most tennis bookmakers.

Coco Gauff with a decent draw!

There are also a few players in the top half of the draw, who have had quite a bit of success on grass already. Angelique Kerber could meet Swiatek early and Caroline Wozniacki is another former No.1 and Grand Slam champion in their half. But the bottom half also doesn’t hold back with Paula Badosa meeting Karolina Muchova in the first round and adding Pliskova, Osaka and Andreescu amongst others. So, while the seeds might be stronger on the top half, I actually think that the bottom half has more unseeded dark horses in it in total.

The projected way into a possible final for the top seeds looks like this for the ladies:

Swiatek: Kenin, Martic, Kerber/Siniakova, Ostapenko, Collins/Vondrousova, Rybakina, Gauff/Sabalenka
Gauff: Dolehide, Cocciaretto, Cirstea, Azarenka/Navarro, Keys, Sabalenka, Rybakina/Swiatek
Sabalenka: Bektas, Vekic, Yastremska, Kasatkina, Zheng, Gauff, Rybakina/Swiatek
Rybakina: Ruse, Siegemund, Fernandez/Wozniacki, Kalinskaya, Pegula/Jabeur, Swiatek, Gauff/Sabalenka

The Wimbledon Draw – Men’s Field

Main news – Sinner and Alcaraz share one half of the draw, which means we might be looking at another rivalry game in the semifinal. Their half features a few question marks in the other seeds, such as Medevedev and Ruud, but also some strong contenders in Tommy Paul and Grigor Dimitrov. The bottom half features Djokovic and Zverev, but also the potentially best server on tour right now in Hubert Hurkacz. Tsitsipas, Draper, Musetti, Fritz and Korda make this half even stronger, so I would argue that in the men’s field the lower half is stronger in seeded players.

The unseeded players in the top half have a few strong competitors in them, such as former finalist Matteo Berrettini or Denis Shapovalov. They are being joined by Monfils, Struff, Thompson and Bautista Agut, who are all decent players on grass to watch out for. The bottom half received amongst others current wildcard surprise Billy Harris and French youngster Arthur Fils. The draw is filled with Ruusuvuori, Giron, Norrie and Eubanks amongst others.

Andy Murray, whose participation is not sure yet, also plays in the bottom half and could be replaced by a lucky loser still. Here’s a few other UK players at Wimbledon that hope to please the home crowd.

The projected way into a possible final for the top seeds:

Sinner: Hanfmann, Berrettini, Griekspoor, Shelton, Medvedev/Dimitrov, Alcaraz/Paul, Hurkacz/Djokovic
Djokovic: Kopriva, Fearnley, Etcheverry, Rune/Eubanks, Hurkacz, Zverev/Tsitsipas, Sinner/Alcaraz
Alcaraz: Lajal, Vukic, Tiafoe, Humbert/Thompson, Paul, Sinner, Hurkacz/Djokovic
Zverev: Carballes Baena, Giron, Draper, Fritz, Tsitsipas/Korda, Hurkacz/Djokovic, Sinner/Alcaraz

Favorites after this draw?

With these draws, who are the favorites to win this year’s Wimbledon? For the women, I think that Coco Gauff has a decent chance to improve from her mediocre results so far, as her draw is slightly easier. But, if healthy and striving, Elena Rybakina has the chance to take Swiatek’s top half and make another run at the title she won in 2022.

For the men, the top half looks like another road to tennis’ finest rivalry right now between Sinner and Alcaraz. And given the struggles of Djokovic right now, I would argue that whoever comes out of the top half of this year’s draw, will also be the heavy favorite for the title. Who do you have as your winners with this draw?

Bonus: first round matchups to watch out for!

Ladies: Swiatek/Kenin, Kreijikova/Kudermetova, Alexandrova/Raducanu, Kasatkina/Zhang, Badosa/Muchova, Azarenka/Stephens

Gentlemen: Berrettini/Fuscovics, Jarry/Shapovalov, Shevchenko/Humbert, Korda/Davidovich Fokina, Murray/Machac, Moutet/DeMinaur
