Is Jannik Sinner an alien? Alexander Bublik seemed to think so after his loss to him at the Miami Open.
Bublik generously told Sinner after the match: “You’re not human! You’re 15 years old and you play like this.” Props to Bublik for a respectful way of dealing with a loss. It’s not like the match was one-sided either. 7-6 6-4 is not the sign of a runaway train.
Is Jannik Sinner an alien? I would guess no. And to correct Bublik (who seems to have a good sense of humour), Sinner is actually 19. Still, he has done a lot during his short career.
“You’re not a human! You’re 15 years old and you play like this.” ?
It’s all respect between Alexander Bublik & @janniksin?

Jannik Sinner – top ten soon?
Sinner has been a pro for three years and have already won two titles on the ATP tour as well as the 2019 Next Gen Finals. He is currently ranked at 31 in the world, but after Miami Open he will surely rise in the rankings. Next up in the semi-finals is Bautista-Agut, who is a tricky opponent, but with Sinnek’s firepower off of both wings, it’s definitely an even match-up.
Sinner endorses the HEAD Speed MP, but plays with the older HEAD Speed Touch MP model. It’s customized to a higher swing weight. More info about Jannik Sinner’s racquet here.
Can Sinner move into the top ten already in 2021? It’s tough, especially with the protected rankings due to Covid, but if he can keep this up on clay, it’s not impossible. His game style seems to suit all surfaces, but he will perhaps face his biggest challenge on grass, which is what players play the least on.
Italian tennis is doing well with players like Berrettini, Musetti, Fognini, and Sinner. It’s clear that the push they did to create a stronger professional tournament scene in Italy a few years back is bearing fruit.
What are your thoughts about Jannik Sinner?
