Andy Murray is back in business after serious hip surgery that could likely have meant the end of his career. But the procedure went well and now he is making strides to come back in both singles and doubles together with his “robotic hip”. Can he be a threat to Grand Slam titles?
If you are asking yourself who is going to shine in the doubles grand slam, the answer is quite complicated. We believe that you might want to pick Andy Murray as a winner of the US Open doubles title, but even there his chances are quite slim according to the pundits that provide the most accurate tennis betting odds. Cabal/Farah and the Bryan Brothers are two pairs that are definitely favorites ahead of Murray and Lopez. He will play US Open doubles together with his partner Feliciano Lopez but decided not to risk his body over five sets when it comes to singles. He has returned to competitive singles play, but lost his first match against Richard Gasquet in Cincinnati in straight sets and last night (CET) he lost to Tennys Sandgren in a tight match 7-6 (8) 7-5. Progress will take time, but he seems to be in it for the long haul.
Andy Murray is Back – What are the odds for another Grand Slam title?
If you are a tennis betting fan, you might want to pick Andy Murray as a winner of the US Open doubles title, but even there the odds are quite slim. Cabal/Farah and the Bryan Brothers are two pairs that are definitely favorites ahead of Murray and Lopez. No matter what, it is nice to see Murray back on the tennis court and if he decides to work for the long-term instead of rushing into action and risking another injury, I think he has a chance to win another grand slam in his career. In singles.
When it comes to the US Open singles title, my favorite to win is still Djokovic as you can read about in my post “The Road to US Open”. Considering the recent form of Daniil Medvedev, he should also be counted as one of the favorites to fight for the title, along with Federer and Nadal of course. I do find it difficult to see Tsitsipas or Zverev as able to fight for a grand slam title considering their recent form, but who knows? It is high time the domination of the big three is challenged, but the way it has played out in recent tournaments, it does not look likely!
