What racquet comparisons would you like to see?

by TN

I get a lot of requests for racquet comparisons. What racquet comparisons would you like to see? I will put them on the list!

A lot of players are considering buying a racquet and might want to know how it compares to their current one. Or they have a shortlist of racquets, but they have no idea what makes them different. You can’t really know for sure how your game will react to a racquet until you play with it, but racquet comparisons from players who have used both racquets might be helpful.

If you need more detailed advice on what racquet/string you should play with, don’t hesitate to check out the Tennisnerd consultation service.

I recently created a video for my Patreon page, comparing the HEAD Gravity Pro vs the HEAD Radical Pro and the HEAD Prestige MP. I might do more of these also on my YouTube channel if people are interested. But I always appreciate you supporting my Patreon and I try to make it worth your while by regularly uploading content and offering advice via a messaging function.

Racquet comparisons – HEAD Prestige MP vs Yonex VCORE 95 (2018)

I am currently playing a lot with two different racquets that I liked in the past, but I now want to revisit. One is the 2020 HEAD Prestige MP which I review together with the other Prestige racquets here and the other one is the previous Yonex VCORE 95, which I prefer over the new Yonex VCORE 95.

So I like both the VCORE 95 and the Prestige MP so much that I wouldn’t know which one to pick for a tournament match.

The VCORE 95 gives me more free power, some extra spin, and is easier to swing (I added some lead tape, but not much), while the Prestige MP is more precise, hits a heavier ball, and is better at the net.

Not an easy choice! I will create a racquet comparison video about these racquets and see what you think about it.

yonex ezone 98 (2020) vs Vcore 98, 95 (2021) vs Vcore pro 97 310
so generally the three yonex lines with head sizes of 98 and below on matters like:
– power (normal and serve)
– flex (arm comfort and feel)
– control
– spin

Beside the obvious difference in head size, I always wondered why the Speed and Radical are two lines instead of one, sort of like how the Pure Strike line has 100s and 98s. I would be interested in a comparison between the Speed MP amd Radical MP.

I’d like to see a comparison of a stock racket that you like in the typical spec range you play (say around 335g strung, 330 SW) with a customised light racket to get to similar specs.

I noticed that the average WTA specs in your article was 325g strung, 338 SW, and there are no such rackets available stock, so it seems most likely that WTA players have light rackets (285-295g) and must add around 15-20g lead to make them more head-heavy. If you did similar to get a 325g racket with 335SW it would be very interesting to see whether you prefer the stock racket or the customised light racket. For example, compare a stock PS97 with a PS97L, with about 12g in the handle and 12g in the hoop. Or a stock Blade98 with a Blade98L with 8g in the handle and 8g in the hoop.

It would be interesting if you can customise a light racket to play ‘better’ than the stock full-weight version.

Timely upcoming comparison Jonas. Just picked up a 2018 VCORE 95 in the last couple of days while also waiting for a demo Prestige MP to arrive from Tennis Only. Really interested to get your take while also experiencing for myself.

Hello Jonas,
Really enjoying your reviews, great comments and evaluations. You are lucky to be living in one of the countries that you can go out on court under the current pandemic. I would love to see a comparison of more control racquets such as Wilson ProStaff v13, vs Yonex VCORE 98/95 or a similar Head racket.
I just switched 3 months ago to ProStaff from Clash Pro, and found more control and also better manouverability.
Cheers from lockdown in Germany.

Gravity Tour vs Prestige Tour
I think the prestige tour is a super overlooked racquet with its 99sq-in head and 18/19 pattern, comes underweight to allow customizing!
Also I saw they re-released the previous generation blade WITHOUT counterveil! No 18×20 available, but I’d be curious to see a review of that, I know that isn’t a comparison. Maybe you could compare it against the new blade.

Thank you and keep up the great reviews/content.

The new Angell K7 Cyan rackets, including the extended length one. Would love to hear your take on that new line, particulary comparing it to the earlier K7 models on the one hand and other 100 square inch rackets from other brands on the other.

Thanks so much for all your greats reviews!

Tf40 305 vs Pro Staff v13 (both are more “traditional” players racquets)
Pro Staff v13 vs 2021 Radical Pro (maybe I’m the only one who’d make this comp, but i think for all-court/attackers its an easy comparison)
