A couple of big-hitters will be playing at the US Open today, hoping to secure a spot in the quarter-finals. Jannik Sinner faces Tommy Paul in a matchup that has him heavily favored, but we’re going to break it down in detail to tell you what the best bets are for the US Open day eight.
Betting on Sinner to win won’t yield much, but there is a line that makes sense and gives some great odds, and we’re going to explain why.
US Open Day Eight Best Bets
Jannik Sinner and Tommy Paul are some of the best hitters we have in the game. Both of them are capable of hitting some crazy angles on most of their shots, though Sinner obviously does it at a higher level.
He’s the No 1 player in the world, and he’s been firing on all cylinders lately, which makes him as big of a favorite as he is. In contrast, Paul has been fairly average so far at the event, and it’s going to be tough for him to flip a switch suddenly.
In fact, we don’t think he’ll be able to. We are backing Sinner to beat him in straight sets because the Italian has just been that much better than Paul.
- Sinner to win 3-0 @ 2.20 | +120
Sinner is serving well and is very tough to break. He’s hitting the ball far better than Paul, which will make him overwhelming for the American, who is more prone to unforced error streaks anyway.
Sinner vs Paul Preview
Sinner is on an eight-match winning streak during which time he has dropped only a few sets. He has mostly lost sets to solid players who were playing at a really high level, such as Alexander Zverev and Andrey Rublev in Cincinnati.
Tommy Paul is a solid player, but he hasn’t really played all that well at the US Open. The match against Gabriel Diallo had many issues, but the most obvious one is that his hitting has looked pretty flat.
He can’t allow that against Sinner because the only way he can keep that match close is if he plays aggressively and hits his shots. The serve hasn’t looked all that impressive either. Essentially, while Paul is a really strong player capable of playing brilliant tennis, he hasn’t really shown that at the US Open so far.
Sinner is also a tough matchup for him because he does everything similarly, just on a higher level. That’s not a battle Paul can win easily, and we think he won’t.
We think that Sinner will win this one in straight sets, mostly because he’s just in better shape right now and has looked really confident in his play. Even when he gets broken, the Italian doesn’t really get shaken, and none of his opponents so far have been able to put him under tremendous pressure.
Everything we’ve seen from Paul lately tells us that he won’t be able to either, and it’s why we’re backing Sinner to win 3-0.
