Heading into the last Masters 1000 event of the year, the 2024 Paris Masters, only four players are certain to be playing in the ATP Finals in Turin in 2 weeks time. These are world no 1 Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev.
The ATP event in Paris this week will be crucial for many players looking to find their way to Turin and the Nitto ATP Finals 2024. This is, together with Davis Cup, the most interesting tennis event for the remainder of the year.
The ATP Finals will feature the top eight players, basically the highest ranked ones as of 9th November for points earned in 2024. So let’s look at all players still with a chance to qualify for the four remaining spots, in what seem to be an intensive race.
Fritz close to Turin
Top ranked American Taylor Fritz are right now in a great position to reach Turin, which would be just his second time in the ATP Finals (2022 was the last time). Fritz just need one win in Paris this week to be guaranteed qualification.
Djokovic still has a chance to reach the Turin finals, however, the Serb just recently decided to withdraw from the Paris Masters, making his chances slim.
Who else?
10-12th placed Grigor Dimitrov, Tommy Paul and Stefanos Tsitsipas, would surely need great runs in Paris in order to stay in the race for the top 8. Tsitsipas must win the title, while Dimitrov and Paul must reach at least the final. Depending on other players results, even they might need to win it in Paris.
7th placed Casper Ruud is acknowledging the tight race and the importance of the Paris event this week:
“I’m looking over my shoulder because there are a lot of guys that can do really well here and even next week also counts… it’s getting tense. It’s becoming a really, really interesting Race and a close Race. A lot of things can still happen this week.”ย Ruud commented.
Aussie Alex de Minaur is hoping to make his debut at the Turin ATP Finals and he closed the gap to 8th spot by reaching the semi-finals at the ATP Vienna.
Rublev is currently holding the last qualification spot after reaching the quarter-finals in Basel last week. The Russian aims to qualify for the ATP Finals for the fifth season in a row, but might need a good result in Paris this week.
It should also be mentioned that the two following ATP250 tournaments (Belgrade Open and the Moselle Open) will also count towards the Race to Turin.
