It is time for the Shanghai Masters 2019. Is the stage all set for Djokovic to defend his title? Or can someone upset him? Here are my predictions.
Djokovic came back from injury in Being next week and did not look rusty at all. He had a good draw and rushed to the title without dropping a set. This makes him the overwhelming favorite for the Shanghai Masters 2019.
Federer is back on the tour after the Laver Cup and is hopefully hungry to put the Wimbledon final behind him. He plays well on the fast indoor courts and won the championship in 2017. His draw is not easy though, but he should get through Ramos-Vinolas in his first match.
Rafa is suffering from a wrist injury and will rest this week. Does anyone else have the power to challenge Djokovic or Federer for the title?
Shanghai Masters 2019 Predictions – The Second Tier
The obvious favorites are Federer and Djokovic, but Thiem won in Beijing and beat Tsitsipas in the final. This means that those two players are in good form and then in the mix to win. The same goes for Zverev who has looked like he is coming back to a better level of late. Those three guys should be a definite threat.
Another player that is moving in the right direction is Andy Murray. He lost to Thiem in Beijing, but won two matches before that, beating Matteo Berrettini in one of them. This is a sign that he is on track again. Not sure how far he can take it, but the positive signs are there.
And, we must not forget, Daniil Medvedev is one of the best players in 2019. Surely, he is one of the favorites to pick up yet another trophy?
Shanghai Masters 2019 Predictions – Dark Horses
There are a bunch of players who we can’t expect to win the tournament, but who can create some upsets. Alex de Minaur recently won a tournament and looks to be in great form. Felix Auger-Aliassime is always dangerous. Karen Khachanov has won a Masters tournament before and plays well indoors. So there are definite threats also for the more established pros. It will be very interesting to see how can finish the season off strongly.
My pick to win the tournament is not very daring in Novak Djokovic. If he doesn’t win then I think Federer can do it. If neither of the two, I think Alex Zverev.
