The China Open 2023 Draw is Exciting

by Jonas Eriksson

After a lukewarm Laver Cup and Davis Cup week, we have an exciting week with the China Open 2023 and Astana ATP tournaments.

China Open 2023

The China Open 2023 ATP 500 tournament has some exciting match-ups already in round one. Or what do you think about the following:

Khachanov vs. Musetti
Rune vs. Auger-Aliassime
Sinner vs. Evans
Zverev vs. Schwartzman
Tsitsipas vs. Jarry
Norrie vs. Rublev
De Minaur vs. Murray
Medvedev vs. Paul

Click the name to find out what racquet they use. We should add an article on Tennisnerd about Tommy Paul’s racquet, which is the Yonex VCORE 98 strung with a hybrid setup. If you know what Nicolas Jarry is playing with, feel free to comment below or reach out to us.

Getting back to the China Open 2023 draw. It’s a pretty bonkers first round. I talked to my friend Karl Adrian, coach of Safiullin, the other day and he said that the ATP 500 is the toughest ones to get into. And you can see why just by looking at the draw!

It will be fascinating to see Alcaraz back in action. It’s the first time he plays in China.

I am surprised to see Rune in the draw. Isn’t he injured? He had some serious back problems as far as I understood. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Exciting match-ups

Auger-Aliassime has been struggling all year, but seemed to enjoy the Laver Cup. Will this help him find his winning form? If Rune is not a hundred percept physically, then he has a great chance.

I posted about the lopsided Murray vs. De Minaur match-up on our Instagram account. Murray has never beaten De Minaur. Can he do it tomorrow?

Zverev is in great form after the Chengdu ATP 250, so I think he should beat Schwartzman comfortably.

Tsitsipas has been a bit all over the place in 2023. Jarry is not an easy opponent, so that could be an upset alert.

Lots of exciting storylines to follow here, so I’m keen to see how the China Open and the rest of the season unfolds.
