Rafa prepares for Wimbledon at the Mallorca Country Club

Rafa prepares for Wimbledon at the Mallorca Country Club and is feeling positive about being able to play the third grand slam of the year.

Rafael Nadal has trained for five days at the Mallorca Country Club to strengthen his transition to the grass surface. The brand-new Roland Garros champion has exercised on the Calvià slopes, which are in superb condition ahead of the second edition of the Mallorca Championships.

The last training session (today, 17th of June) of the Mallorcan and his compatriot Feliciano López, one of the tennis players who will participate in the main draw in the only ATP tournament on grass in Spain, has raised great expectations. World No.4 has subsequently attended the media to assess the state of his preparation, the evolution of the treatment on his left foot, and his more immediate plans.

Nadal celebrated that his sensations were positive after the first days on the new surface. “I’m happy, I haven’t been lame for a week and the evolution of training is progressive. It’s time to wait a bit because I haven’t played on grass for three years, but this week he tells me that there may be chances of playing Wimbledon”, highlighted the 36-year-old tennis player.

Nadal will travel to London

The Spaniard has revealed that next Monday, he will travel to London, where he will continue his training ahead of the third Grand Slam of the year. However, the winner of this year’s Australian Open has not yet assured if he will participate since he hopes to finish testing the evolution of the treatment that was applied.

“My intention is to get to Wimbledon, train, and play two matches at the Hurlingham exhibition. For now the sensations are positive, but they can change. I am happy with how I have been able to train these days, increasing the work”, Nadal assured.

The champion of 22 ‘majors’ has thanked the Mallorca Country Club for being able to train on their tracks and for the treatment received. “I feel lucky not to travel to London sooner, which allows me to recover adequately. I am also happy to have a tournament like the Mallorca Championships, where great players come. I am convinced that it will be a success, ” confessed the player with the best Grand Slam record.

Nadal has also praised the conditions to be able to train in Calviá. “Maintaining natural grass courts is very complicated. I greatly respect the efforts of the Mallorca Country Club to host a tournament here, with the difficulty of finding excellence on courts of this surface outside of Wimbledon”, concluded the champion of the London tournament in 2008 and 2010.

Tournament information

Included in the grass-court part of the tour, the ATP 250 in Mallorca will receive some of the best players on the circuit, such as the Russian Daniil Medvedev, the Australian Nick Kyrgios, or the Spanish tennis players Pablo Carreño or Roberto Bautista. The courts of the Mallorca Country Club, located in Santa Ponça (Calvià), will receive a total of 28 tennis players in the singles draw and 16 pairs in doubles. This year’s event will have 100% capacity, and it is expected that 3,500 people can attend each day. You can buy the last available tickets on the official website.
