Well, there’s not much excitement in predicting today’s matches. Troicki vs Ferrer Ferrer has played great tennis at the start of the year with a semi-final at Australian Open and a win at Heineken open. He is as usual in great shape and forces his opponents to come up with some pretty fantastic tennis to win a point. Troicki is a talented player that’s definitely on the rise, but I think he will have a hard time against “The Wall” and lose in straights. Federer vs Melzer Melzer was very impressive against Almagro yesterday, but Federer breezed through Cilic and …

What Tennis Racket Should I Buy?
I have played with and play-tested loads of tennis rackets. Everything from lightweight Babolats to heavy-headed Wilsons to the beloved Dunlop 4D 300 Tour I play with now. It takes a while before you find where you’re most comfortable. Here is a little guide to rackets – going through different characteristics. You can buy them all from Tennis Express. Tennis Express has the best prices on the market and free shipping on orders above $75! Heavy vs light Lightweight rackets are usually for obviously lighter and smaller players, but also for players who need more power and have more arm-like swing. If you …
I have playtested a couple of rackets from the Wilson BLX line lately and here is a brief description and review of the Wilson Six.One Tour BLX, Wilson Six.One 95 BLX, Wilson Pro Tour BLX, and Wilson K-Blade Tour BLX. BLX is the update from the K-factor series and essentially means they have included Basalt in the composition to enhance feel. If you want to check them out you can buy them at Tennis Express for example. Wilson Six.One. Tour BLX Head Size: 90 sq. in. / 580.64 sq. cm. Strung Weight: 12.5oz / 354.37g Balance: 9 pts HL Swingweight: 333 …
Bring on the clay! Spring is in the air when you can hear feet sliding on red dirt. I am really looking forward to this year’s season which has a lot of interesting questions to answer. Will Nadal be as unbeatable as always? How will Djokovic perform after a spellbinding start to the season? Can Federer be able to convince the fans that he’s still a force or will the rivalry between Djokovic and Nadal tighten? Is it time for clay court demon Nicholas Almagro to step up and win a Masters title? Americans have suffered lately on the dirt, …
Tennis writer Steve Tignor had something to say on Federer’s recent performance in contrast to Nadal and Djokovic. I paste a part of his post below. You can read the full thing here. As the most painful downtick in the very slow but inevitable decline of Roger Federer His semi with Nadal may have been the worst I’ve seen him play. Rafa was very good, and very solid when Federer showed a few tiny signs of life midway through the second set. But Federer looked confused from the beginning, unsure of how to approach the slow conditions and the fast …
For Federer fans such as myself this is a pretty controversial or at least disappointing headline. What can the young Spaniard teach the Swiss maestro? Well maybe “teach” is the wrong word and maybe there isn’t a lesson to be learned about “wanting to win” but if there was, I could think of no better player to teach it than Rafael Nadal. Because one of the problems in yesterday’s 6-3 6-2 beating in ATP Miami semi-finals was that Federer didn’t look comfortable from the second he stepped on court and after going down a break he didn’t seem to have …
Tennis is all about confidence. Everything can change with millimeters. A ball lands in, a ball lands out. Game point or break point. Feeling good or smashing your racket. One guy who seems to be in no lack of confidence right now is Novak Djokovic. He is on a tear, having won 24 straight matches since November. If he keeps this up he will bag the difficult triple of Australian Open, Indian Wells, and Miami. A feat only three players have done before, one of them being Federer. I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulls it off. But what has …
I wrote a post in reply to Jon Wertheim’s Sports Illustrated article about Federer’s lack of consistency and sloppy play in Dubai and got a very nice response. It reminded me of this tennis column, I wrote some time ago and the interest it generated. It seems like the interest for Roger Federer is endless and strong and his fan base must be one of the most ardent and loyal in the world. So what is it that makes Federer so special besides his amazing results on the tennis court? Because results only don’t create this kind of fan base, just …
There is a lot written these days about Nadal being able to catch Federer’s grand slam record (currently at 16) or not. Nadal currently has 8 Grand Slams to his name and he needs to double that amount just to catch up if Federer doesn’t win any more slams (which, considering Fed has already won one in 2010 and still is one of the favorites for the upcoming US Open, seems highly unlikely). I think we have two great legends on our hands and whoever might win the most grand slams of all time is not that important. We should …
I don’t want to jump on the Federer is not going to win another slam bandwagon, but there is something about him lately that is very, very mortal and I don’t like it. Going in to the Halle final he had a H2H stats of winning the last 15 encounters against Leyton Hewitt and he did play like it in the first set, 6-3. Both players played well in a tight second that ended with Hewitt winning the tie-breaker 7-6. But then something came horribly undone in Federer’s game, he could hardly put a forehand right. I guess these things happen …
