Can Rafa dominate the clay season?

by Jonas Eriksson

The Monte Carlo Masters is upon us and the big question ahead of the tournament and the clay season is if the King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, will dominate. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Tomorrow I’m packing my bags to follow some of the action live which means there might be a few days without posts here on Tennisnerd. I’d recommend you to check out Instagram, Facebook and Twitter however.

Looking at his crazy clay court records, Rafa has two favorite tournaments – Monte Carlo Masters and Roland Garros. He has won them both nine times and I would be surprised if he doesn’t pick at least one of them up in 2017.

The competition is fierce, as usual, but Federer is taking a break, Djokovic and Murray is returning from injury and Thiem, who is the nextgen player who is most comfortable on the red dirt, hasn’t really performed at the top of his game this year, but might make a run for it on clay.

I personally have a hard time seeing a player challenge Rafa on clay this year. He has played a really good season so far and the only player who has really gotten the better of him is his familiar rival Roger Federer. This means Rafa is confident and hungry for revenge and with the clay season starting, the bull from Manacor is entering his home turf.

So my pick to win both Monte Carlo and Roland Garros is none other than the king of clay, Rafael Nadal.
