I have been enjoying two strings from the new Italian brand String Project. A multifilament called Gold and a monofilament called Magic. Here is my review. I did write about these strings briefly before, but since I have been enjoying them so much, I wanted to create a more in-depth review. This also includes a video review that you can watch below. There are a lot of new string brands on the market. The competition is tightening, but perhaps there is room for more as long as you can create a quality product. Besides more focused string brands like MSV, …
Mayami Strings is a new tennis string brand based in Ukraine. They create strings focused on durability, control, and spin. Review to come. Mayami Strings already have quite a big line-up of tennis strings: Tour Hex, Big Spin, Hit Pro, Hepta Power, and Magic Twist. I have received samples of all of the strings, but not sure I will have time to review them all so I will focus on a couple of them for this play-test. Mayami Tour Hex This is a hexagonal polyester string focused on control. It has received very nice reviews on Stringforum and should be …
I have been suffering from both wrist and elbow pain lately. Not sure what caused it, but it has made me test more arm-friendly strings. Arm-friendly strings The most popular string these days are stiff poly strings that offer good control, durability, and spin. They only have one real downside – they are not arm-friendly strings. And this is in part why we are seeing an increase of tennis elbow, wrist and shoulder injuries these days (it also has to do with stiffer racquets of course). Not that long ago most tennis players used only natural gut, synthetic gut or …
MSV was founded in 2000 by Dr. Karl-Eberhard Mauve. They offer strings, grips and more. Let’s have a closer look at MSV strings. MSV Strings In 2018 MSV strings and grips were sold in 48 countries around the globe. The bestseller MSV FOCUS-HEX achieves a satisfaction rating of 90+% (source: stringforum.net, March 2018, 403 ratings). More than 1 million string jobs were done with this string. I have been testing many MSV strings over the years. You can find some of my reviews below. MSV Swift MSV Bussard MSV Focus Hex Ultra MSV Go Max Besides strings, they also offer a wide variety …
Solinco has become one of the most popular brands on the string market and their best-seller is the square-shaped spin machine, Solinco Tour Bite. Here is my Solinco Tour Bite string review that deals with both Tour Bite and Tour Bite Soft strings. Solinco Tour Bite is used by a lot of players on the ATP and WTA tours. It is a spin-friendly and control-oriented string that does exactly what it says it does: it gives extra bite and rotations on the ball. I have been using Solinco Tour Bite and Solinco Tour Bite Soft as two of my go-to-strings, but …
After listing my top ten tennis racquets right now, it felt only logical also to list my top ten tennis strings right now. It is not a definitive list, but my favorite ten strings at the moment in various categories. If you think it is challenging to choose your tennis racquet, choosing your tennis string is not much easier. The variety of different strings, gut, poly, hybrid, multifilament, synthetic can easily be overwhelming. I hope my “Top Ten Tennis Strings Right Now” can guide you a bit on finding a setup that works for your racquet and your game. You can …
I have been asked to write more string reviews and it is high time. However, since I have a lot of notes around strings lying around and have tried various strings during different times and with different racquets, I will make more of a mini-review format. Here is my Luxilon 4G string review. The Luxilon 4G string is a premium poly string on the market that retails around 20 euro/USD per set and around 270 euro/USD for a 200m reel. The key aspect of Luxilon 4G is tension maintenance and control. It is a really low-powered string that works well …
It is always nice to see new players in the tennis industry. Laserfibre is a US-based tennis string and accessory company with ambitious plans. Now they have released JB Tour 100, the signature string for ex-pro player James Blake. Here is the Tennisnerd’s Laserfibre JB Tour 100 string review. I was a big fan of James Blake when he was on tour so I thought it was nice for him to finally get a signature product. Blake played with Luxilon Alu Power when he was active, so I expected the Laserfibre JB Tour 100 to play in a similar way. …
I’ve been searching for the perfect string now that I’ve settled on a racquet (more racquet reviews to come shortly anyway) and it’s for sure an interesting journey with a lot of high quality polys out there. One of them is MSV Focus-Hex Ultra. The MSV Focus-Hex Ultra is a white, co-poly hexagonal string which is supposed to give you a “comfortably firm feel, explosive power, reduced string movement and long lasting tension maintenance with maximum durability”. This is what it says on the box. And I’m happy to report that the box doesn’t line. I usually prefer rather dead …
